Hameed went around the area and installed what he calls ‘book hundials’ at Valliyur and Panagudi areas, so willing individuals can donate books. The idea first came to Hameed when he joined the Valliyur station four months ago. He feels the light of letters can shine a path to people’s hearts and mend the damaged public-police relationship. Inspector Shahul Hameed is the brainchild behind this police library. The library has around 4500 books, as per The New Indian Express. Next to the police outpost inside the Valliyur bus stand is a properly arranged library.
